Biography

Before creating groundbreaking works of art, Sori Choi led a distinguished career as a solo percussionist, establishing himself globally through an illustrious 30-year musical journey. Having released 10 solo albums and performed in over 200 cities worldwide, including a notable performance at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, he became celebrated for his innovative approach to sound and rhythm that transcends traditional musical boundaries.

Choi's creative practice now extends into visual arts, where he explores the sonic potential of materials. Guided by the belief that every object and form of energy harbors its own unique sound, he investigates sound's essence through material physicality. His process involves manipulating aluminum and copper plates, paper, and canvas through tapping, coloring, and grinding – techniques that serve as explorations into the auditory possibilities contained within each medium.

Choi's work embodies an intersection where music, dance, and visual art converge, transcending conventional artistic boundaries. His pieces resonate with sound and movement, offering audiences immersive experiences that challenge traditional disciplinary separations. Through this innovative practice, he invites viewers to reconsider perceptions of sound and visual art, presenting a harmonious blend that speaks to the synesthetic possibilities of creative expression.
